Northwest Steelheaders focuses primarily on recreational angler-driven programs in education and advocacy

Our work is made possible by over 1,200 generous members and volunteers. ANWS is an independent angling association that prides itself on its ability to work well with other stakeholders: environmental groups, the sport fishing industry, natural resource agencies, and tribal interest groups.

We understand that while we have some major differences, we all seek to ensure that there is a place to fish and fish to catch now and for future generations. As such, we are the leading nonprofit voice for anglers in the Pacific Northwest.

Angling

Our 11 Chapters host fly tying, first time fishing workshops, fish-a-longs, and events for veterans, families, and underprivileged communities to introduce new anglers to the love of the tug.

Education

Through our Fish Eggs to Fry Program, our Family Fish Camp, and our Garden for Wildlife Certification Program, we put education at the fore of our conservation efforts.

Advocacy

Some of our policy achievements include removing steelhead from commercial fisheries, a ban on high seas drift nets, fish protection language in the Northwest Power Act, and successfully defending the public’s right to use beds and banks.
