The Association of Northwest Steelheaders (ANWS) is proud to announce the appointment of James Adkins as our new Executive Director. James has successfully been working as our Communications Director since December of 2024, and we have been very impressed with his work and the impact he has had. Our membership has grown, and our financial situation has improved since James has started. Specifically, he has already proven himself as a grant writer, fundraiser, event manager and has done a great job with our newsletter and other communication work. He was a natural fit to step into this role.

James brings a wealth of leadership experience, a strong commitment to conservation, and a passion for angling that aligns with our mission to preserve and enhance Northwest fish populations and habitats while promoting responsible fishing practices.

As Executive Director, James will guide ANWS’s vision and strategy, working closely with the Board of Directors to advance policies and programs that protect our region’s fisheries. He will also serve as the organization’s chief spokesperson, representing recreational anglers and fish conservation efforts across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho

James’s professional background has prepared him well for this role. He has successfully led teams, built partnerships across diverse sectors, and championed community-driven initiatives—skills that will be invaluable in strengthening ANWS’s impact. His expertise in nonprofit leadership and advocacy will support the organization’s fundraising efforts, from cultivating donors to securing grants and sponsorships that sustain our programs.

Beyond organizational leadership, James will focus on expanding community engagement, supporting our dedicated chapters, and ensuring ANWS remains a trusted voice in fisheries policy. He will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, guiding staff and volunteers in delivering high-quality programs and fostering a collaborative workplace culture.

“Northwest Steelheaders has a proud history of conservation advocacy and community action in the Pacific Northwest,” James said. “I am honored to step into this role and look forward to working with our members, partners, and supporters to ensure healthy fish populations and fishing opportunities for future generations.”

The Board of Directors and staff are excited to welcome James into this leadership position and look forward to a new chapter of growth and impact under his guidance.
