The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) Commission has adopted the 2026–2027 sport fishing and 2026 big game hunting regulations. Several changes will impact anglers and present new opportunities for recreational sportfishing across the state.

You can see the press release from ODFW here and the full meeting minutes here.

Here are a few of the key changes coming in 2026 that will impact anglers:

Coquille River Fall Salmon Season

  • Dates: Sept. 13 – Oct. 15
  • Location: From the Hwy 101 bridge upstream to the Hwy 42S Sturdivant Park Bridge near the town of Coquille
  • Bag Limit: Two adult salmon per day (hatchery Chinook and coho, but only one may be a wild coho)
  • Season Limit: Up to three wild coho

Expanded Spearfishing Opportunities

  • Spearfishing will be allowed in rivers and streams open with no limit for bass and walleye.
  • This change responds to angler interest in alternative fishing methods and may help reduce non-native fish pressure on native salmon and steelhead.

Kokanee Bag Limit Simplified

  • Beginning in 2026, anglers may keep 10 kokanee per day, year-round, with no size limit (unless otherwise specified).
  • This replaces the confusing “bonus bag limit” with a straightforward kokanee-specific daily limit.

New Ocean Endorsement Requirement

  • Effective Jan. 1, 2026, anglers fishing for marine species (except shellfish, salmon, and steelhead) in ocean waters must purchase an Ocean Endorsement.
  • Cost: $9 annually or $4 daily (same for residents and nonresidents).
  • Included free with resident Pioneer, resident Disabled Veteran, and Youth licenses.
  • Revenue will fund nearshore fish population surveys and research, providing managers with stronger data to support science-based decisions.
