The Association of Northwest Steelheaders held its annual board meeting on August 8, bringing together board members and chapter leaders from across Oregon and Southwest Washington to celebrate a year of growth, share chapter accomplishments, identify challenges, and look ahead to the Association’s future. “CAST” stands for “Catch A Special Thrill”. This is an opportunity for kids with special needs to spend a day on the water fishing.
The event needs Boat Captains and Shore Volunteers. Shore volunteers help with registration and passing out tee-shirts, hats, tackle boxes and fishing rods. Experienced boat trailer drivers are also needed to launch and retrieve boats.

Each year, hundreds of Scouts and their families attend this event to learn the basics of fishing, conservation, and outdoor recreation. For many participants, it is their very first time holding a fishing rod or catching a fish. Your time and experience can help create a lifelong passion for angling and an appreciation for Oregon's natural resources.
Last year's event welcomed nearly 500 youth and family members, with volunteers teaching casting and basic fishing techniques, helping manage equipment, registration, and shoreline assistance. Volunteers ensured every participant had a safe, fun, and memorable experience. You don't need teaching experience—just a willingness to encourage young anglers and help families enjoy a day on the water. |
