The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission has adopted 2026 fall salmon fishing regulations for Oregon’s coastal rivers, setting the framework for wild Chinook and wild coho fisheries from the Necanicum River south to the Winchuck River. The rules, approved at the Commission’s June 26 meeting in Redmond, largely reflect the staff proposal and will shape fall opportunities for anglers across 18 coastal Chinook basins and 10 coastal coho basins, along with several lake fisheries. Last year's event welcomed nearly 500 youth and family members, with volunteers teaching casting and basic fishing techniques, helping manage equipment, registration, and shoreline assistance. Volunteers ensured every participant had a safe, fun, and memorable experience. You don't need teaching experience—just a willingness to encourage young anglers and help families enjoy a day on the water. |

Columbia River walleye are a non-native, invasive species. They thrive in the lake like environments created by the dams on the Columbia River and are voracious predators that target juvenile salmon. Association of Northwest Steelheaders strongly encourages anglers to keep all walleye to support the restoration of Columbia Basin salmon and steelhead.

Shad are plentiful and invasive to the Columbia Basin. While they are not known to target juvenile salmon, there are concerns that they do compete with juvenile salmon for resources.
